Fasting is not a new concept for humans. We all have been doing it knowingly or unknowingly. Well, still for most of us the title itself would seem a little absurd. I mean fasting for 16 hours a day sounds crazy. Wouldn’t it be hazardous for your health? Well, what if I told you that it is a scientifically proven way to improve your metabolism. Fasting is not a new concept for humans. We all have been doing it knowingly or unknowingly.

Yes. fasting for 16 hours a day, also known as one of the trending ways of Intermittent fasting, has recently become one of the most popular concepts in the sphere of health and fitness. This method of fasting involves fasting for 16 hours every day. Each day having to limit your eating to an 8- hour eating space throughout which you fit in 2 to 3 meals.

One of the researches conducted by the Yale University School of Medicine showed that- contradicting the popular belief- your metabolism rate actually increases when you follow this method of fasting. Various other researches show that it also promotes normal insulin sensitivity and cardiovascular health.

Even though fasting and starving are two different concepts, people often confuse this fasting method to starving.

We live in an era where most of us have access to 24-hour food but think about our ancestors, back then there was no such concept as anytime anywhere food. They ate only when they were lucky enough to find food. Still they survived, right?

Well that’s simply because our body is designed to support much shorter eating spans.  16: 8 fasting is the simplest way wherein you consume the required calorie intake in the span of 8 hours and hold off for the rest of the day. Or we can also see it as simply eating during the day and not eating during the night.

Although there are plenty of benefits of fasting for 16 hours a day, there are some things we should keep in mind while following it.

  • We should try and eat healthy in the eating window
  • Stay hydrated
  • Do not exercise extensively and do not overeat

Keeping these points in mind and you are good to go. Apart from all the benefits, it’s good to teach your body that it can survive without food.
